Back Pain

Whether from injury, accident, or degeneration, back pain is the leading cause of discomfort in the human body. It is the most common condition that chiropractors treat. In fact, over 80% of Americans will suffer some kind of back pain during their lives. Most people suffering from back pain have had it for a long time, maybe not constant but reoccurring.

Lower back pain is among the top reasons people take prescription medication and have surgery. This surgery often could have been avoided and sadly 50% of people experience painful symptoms again. Prescription medications are also not without their dangers when taken repeatedly for a long period of time. Both these approaches are not due to malice but a difference in thought. As conventional medicine treats the symptoms and not the cause while chiropractic treats the cause and seeks to alleviate the symptoms. However, it should be noted that there is a time and place for surgery and medication. That is why at We Got Your Back we offer a combined approach in working with MD’s and surgeons to rule out all possible underlying conditions and too determine the best and least invasive treatment possible.

The problem with back pain is that its route cause is typically misdiagnosed because the symptoms’ manifest themselves in the back. However, the cause can be tight hamstrings, poor pelvic motion, core instability, a lack of endurance etc. For proof of this I challenge you to do three simple things for three minutes a day and see if this does not improve the pain that you are feeling.

  1. Stretch your hamstrings for 60 seconds every day and you will not believe how it unlocks the motion in your body.
  2. Stretch your Psoas or hip flexors muscles for one minute per day. To stretch your Psoas place one foot forward in a lunge position, keeping your back straight, slowly drive the forward knee toward the floor, while keeping the back leg straight. This helps alleviates spinal compression.
  3. Drink lots of water. Your body needs hydration for the muscles to function properly. You should consume 40 to 50% of your body weight in ounces of water per day.
